Data cross-checked. Computed from our Short-Term Holder supply in profit and in loss (outputs younger than 155 days). The Short-Term Holder series it uses are cross-checked daily against an independent on-chain data provider (STH realized price: median difference 0.47% over 1,369 days (2023-01-01 to 2026-10-09); 95% of days within 1.96%). Formula

STH Profit/Loss Ratio = STH Supply in Profit / STH Supply in Loss. Young supply is held in outputs created less than 155 days ago; each creation-day bucket is in profit when its remaining average acquisition price is below the day's price.

How to read it

The ratio sets the young coins that sit above their acquisition price against those that sit below it. At 1 both amounts are equal.

Above 1, most recently moved coins are worth more than when they last moved; below 1, most of them are underwater. Very high readings mean recent buyers are broadly in profit, very low readings that they are broadly at a loss.

Because it divides two amounts, it swings sharply when one side becomes small, so the indicator axis is logarithmic.

Limitations

  • Built from UTXO-based supply in profit and loss, not from entity-adjusted cohorts, so its level can differ from entity-based versions of this ratio.
  • When no young supply is in loss the ratio is undefined and that day is left empty. Days with no young supply in profit read 0 and are not drawn on the logarithmic axis.
  • All remaining coins created on one day are classified using that bucket's average cost, so the split between profit and loss is approximate.
  • On-chain movements include transfers between an owner's own wallets. They do not establish actual purchases, sales or investor identity.
